When last we saw our players, Athena was "rescued" from a seemingly wimpy (and fugly) wizard. Why he took her is still anyone's guess. Everyone returned to town in time for lunch, and Nikola seduced Trevor (who didn't fight her off at all). It’s late afternoon. Doc is at the hospital mixing drugs, Athena and Diego are having a serious discussion about manhood, and Marks is with Susie (his leatherwing), hungry and angry that his quarry escaped. Nikola and Trevor, of course, are busy.
Once Nikola’s finished with him, Trevor checks in at the office. The deputy tells him the wizard has escaped from his cell--magically, of course. The posse is riding out, with little hope of actually finding the guy, who obviously had some help. Where’s that ‘stalker, anway? Trevor goes to look.
By now Marks is back at the saloon, having a bloody steak. It’s not bad, but not at all what he’s hungry for. Trevor doesn’t find Marks at the inn, so he crosses the street to the saloon. Athena is also looking for Marks, and walks with Trevor to the bar. Marks feels the Amazon’s presence as she crosses the street, and rests a hand on one of his guns. He continues to eat while watching the door. Trevor and Athena enter. Marks grips his gun, under the table.
Athena: "Just the Man I wanted to see."
Trevor: "You wouldn't know anything about a guy who shows up every once in a while to take care of rogue mages, would you?"
Athena: "We have some things to discuss in private."
Marks: (to both of them) "Huh?"
Marks: (looks at Trevor) "You first. Whats that about a rogue mage?"
Trevor: “The deputy at the sheriff's office said there's some guy that shows up every once in a while to take care of mages and such, and i wanted to ask if you know anything about him, or if you could track him down somehow.”
Marks: "I don’t know anything about a rogue mage. I'm pretty new here, though the sheriff should have a mage that I brought them about a week ago. Ask him."
Marks: (Looks at Athena.) "What do you want?"
Trevor: "that mage got away."
Athena: "Do you have a Vibro-Knife or something similar?"
Marks: "Why? You calling me out?" (Looks at Trevor again.) "So why are you asking about a rogue mage that picks up mages?"
Athena: "No, I am Not calling you out. I thought you might be hungry."
Trevor: "Doesn't take a genius to figure out that he maybe could help us with our current mage problem."
Marks: (Raises an eyebrow, and looks at her slowly.) "Tease"
Marks: "and yes, gunfighter, I can help you find the mage that got away from the sheriff, though I won't be nice to him this time."
Athena: "I'm not a tease, I'm just trying to say thanks."
Trevor: "Hey, i'm not askin' you t'be."
Marks: "Good, I'll be out in a minute, seems that I'm getting a "Thank You""
Marks: (Points a finger at Athena.) "Now, you want to run and let me hunt you down as a Thank You?"
Athena: “No, not hunting, I know that you have to restrain me and make a little cut on me to feed. So if you have a vibro-knife I suggest that you take my wrists." (she then holds her hands out in front of her, wrists together.)
Marks: (Energy Expulsion from finger; spends 6 ISP to do MD [1d4] => [4] = (4) )
Athena: "Ouch"
Marks: (Takes all of Athena’s PPE and half her ISP, then looks at her strangely) “Why?”
Athena: "You helped track me down. I owed you."
Marks: (Shrugs and rips another bit of meat off the streak before dropping it onto the plate.) "You can get lost anytime then." (He stands up, and walks out to meet Trevor. Athena follows)
Athena: "Hopefully I'll put a laser through that mage first.”
Marks: "Heh, good luck."
Athena: "So you're goin' hunting with me in the morning"
Marks: (Stops at the door and says over his shoulder) "I'm going hunting now. Unless you want to play prey..."
With that Athena returns to her room to gear up, and Marks follows Trevor to the Sheriff’s. Doc meets them on the way and Athena catches up. Nikola noticed the party was heading out, so she goes too. There’s a lot of talk between the PCs and deputy, but little more information to be shared. Marks grows bored and wanders the streets. Deciding it would go better by air, be backtracks to Susie. Nikola goes out to find him; she catches up just as Susie is ready to take off. She asks to ride along and Marks helps her up. They fly over town, tracking humans and sensing for magic.
Finding nothing, Marks and Nikola head to the nearest ley line, approximately 11 miles away. Athena, Doc, and Trevor have realized they need to get moving to catch up…but noone noticed which way the leatherwing flew. Doc tries tracking the leatherwing and calling by radio, but he can’t pick up the scent, and neither Marks nor Nikola have a radio. Meanwhile, approaching the ley line, Nikola spots the wizard. Finding a better vantage point, the half of the party traveling by truck looks again, and Trevor sees Susie against the sunset.
Marks does some trick riding. They reach the wizard and the fight begins. The wizard wins initiative and casts Armor of Ithan. Marks has the first shot, and the wizard dodges. Nikola kneecaps him and blows through the magical armor. Marks and Nikola get off Susie, and the wizard tries to hit Marks with an energy bolt, but he dodges easily. Nikola goes for the other kneecap and misses. The wizard hits Marks with another energy bolt. Nikola aims for his shoulder. cocky from her last miss, the wizard takes the hit. Next, Marks goes in for a simultaneous attack with his laser knife. He takes damage from an energy bolt and deals damage from his weapon. Nikola uses both guns to hit two targets—kneecaps! One leg is totally blown off and the other should be. The wizard writhes on the ground, near death. Marks pounces and mind bonds him, then rips out the throat with his teeth. Blood sprays anime-style, splattering Nikola’s backi (she turned away).
The rest of the crew arrives at the end of the fight. Athena and Doc assess the scene and the body. Marks tells them the slain wizard knew it was some kind of trap. The party remains cautious. Marks starts taking notes on the wizard’s thoughts. He then slices off the head and calls Susie down to dinner. Doc hurls. A lot. Marks then tells the party that the wizard was working with the two mages they fought the night before, and that they in turn were working for another unknown force. Maybe the mayor is in on it too. Marks punts the head in anger.
They all ride back into town and talk to the sheriff, presenting the squishy head, questioning him, telling him all they discovered, and discussing conspiracy theories. Doc suggests a way his health services can help in their search for answers. The sheriff has a moral conflict with this, but understands the party’s way of thinking. More questions are raised, and very little is answered.
