It’s morning. Everyone has breakfast at the saloon, and Trevor makes a half-assed attempt to smooth things over with Becky. Nikola finds her jelousy amusing, and Trevor says it must be his “mad bedroom skills.” Athena finds this hilarious. Nikola asks Athena if she’s had a turn yet, and she flatly replies that he’s not her type. Marks shakes his head. Doc nearly chokes on his biscuits and gravy.
Grease, dressed as a delivery guy, enters town and checks in at the gate. He goes to the saloon for breakfast. He’s a handsome guy, and is checked out by Nikola upon arrival. The ladies and Diego leave, and Trevor introduces himself to the newcomer, talks a bit, and goes on patrol duty.
Athena decides to take Diego hunting to the southeast, and Nikola joins them. They find nothing worth killing, but the ladies talk and gain a lot of insight into each other’s histories.
Marks goes downtown and buys a radio so he can stay in contact with Doc and the others in case he finds something on a fly-over with Susie. He barters successfully and gets the price lowered. He the flies around searching for magic and supernatural creatures, but it seems those who did use magic before are keeping a low profile now that there is a psi-stalker flying about.
Doc makes a list of supplies he needs to get the hospital in working order, and pays the mayor, K. Remington, a visit. She tells him she has already ordered supplies, and he should expect them very soon.
Grease gets directions from Barmaid Becky and makes small talk. After eating, he goes to the inn across town, next to the hospital. He does some sizing-up of the town and plots the delivery of his cargo. It doesn’t seem he’ll be able to pull it off “unseen” so he goes back to the tavern and asks Becky about meeting with the mayor. Becky shows him to a private room and tells him she’ll have someone call. Since he knew where to ask, she tells him, the mayor will be there right away.
Meanwhile, bandits are attacking the south gate. The two guards and seven bandits are down. Two bandits still stand. Nikola, Athena, and Marks hear the gunshots and rush to the battle. Nikola has initiative, so she shoots the closest bandit with paired Wilks pistols; she hits. The second bandit shoots at Nikola and misses. Marks shoots with two guns, but his target dodges. Bandit 1 shoots at Marks and hits. Nikola tries another paired attack and misses. Bandit 2 shoots at Nikola and hits. Athena parks the truck on a bandit.
…At this point the GM just declares the start of new melee, because she’s having a really “off” night, she screwed up the sequence quite a lot, and the whole thing just generally went down like a trainwreck…
Trevor, Doc, and Grease arrive at the scene, as they have by now heard lots of gunshots.
…But by all that is good and holy, I managed to screw this one up more…so I’m skipping the ugly details. Everyone gets 100 extra points for dealing with me…
At the end, there is one dead guard, seven dead bandits, and one knocked-out-and-arrested bandit. Doc and Athena run around making diagnoses and patching up bystanders. Trevor drags an unconscious bandit to the sheriff’s office, Marks following but not offering to help.
Grease heads back to the waiting mayor, who is all sorts of bitchy because the delivery hasn’t been made. She tells him in no uncertain terms that she has taken care of it herself. When he returns to the truck he sees that the crate is indeed missing, and his other self is Immobilized. Upon attempting to reabsorb himself, he comes in contact with the affected area and is Immobilized himself. Marks is close enough to sense the magic and recognize the source, so he rushes to the scene. He is annoyed to find nothing but an immobilized man, so he rushes off to find Doc. A big crate has appeared magically in the middle of the hospital. Doc sniffs around suspiciously, but is too curious not to want to peek inside anyway.
Marks arrives at the hospital and asks for Doc. Doc says: “Hey Marks, I smelled it too, they teleported this crate here. The mayor told me to expect a delivery, though...she could have warned me about the method...” Marks takes off running toward the mayor’s office, calling to Doc telepathically: “The magic was the same as the wizard. When Athena was taken. The non-tentacle guy!" Doc suggests Athena accompany Marks.
Grease arrives at the hospital and asks about the crate. Marks and Athena get to the mayor’s office and are told she’s out. After making the secretary cry, Marks gets her to tell them she’s probably at the saloon. Doc and Grease open the crate and find that there is nothing but medical supplies inside. Strangely, it’s exactly what Doc asked for just that morning, but Doc is not complaining. Grease is annoyed and wonders aloud why Remington bothered hiring him. Doc asks just what is he does anyway, and Grease tells him he’s a smuggler. Leave it to Doc, he goes on to talk business with Grease, and inquires about putting him to work obtaining some other rare items.
Meanwhile, Marks is telling the sheriff that the mayor is in cahoots with the bad mage, and presents his arguments for going after her. The sheriff agrees to talk to her, but Marks has a more—ahem—direct approach in mind. The sheriff disagrees, and locks him up in attempt to keep him under control. Marks says fine, uses astral projection to follow, and uses telepathy to make his presence known. The sheriff decides it’s not worth the trouble, and opts to let Marks back out.
