I have been "talking" a lot in the other threads about stats and such in play. I thought I would make a quick note to help you view things as I see them.
Here are, in fact and opinion, some stat concerns to keep in mind when you are making your character and want to judge.
STRENGTH
Ok, do you all remember Arnold in the first Conan movie? Remember his build? Well, this was fairly soon after his competition days. At his competitive peak, Arnold Schwarzenegger was 6’2”, approximately 235lbs, could press 520lbs (235.87kg) and dead lift, straight up and down, 710lbs (322.05kg).
That translates to roughly a Strength Stat of 19 to 21.
Think about that.
DEXTERITY
Ok, this is a tougher one to relate, but there are a few things to think about. Are you a martial artist/gymnast type build? This will make your look totally different than a strongman. Think of the build of Chinese acrobats and contortionists versus atheletes like Running Backs. Both high Dex types, totally different builds. A Chinese acrobat is around an 18 Dex, Yoga masters around a 20.
CONSTITUTION
One word: Rasputin. One Stat: 24.
INTELLIGENCE
This is another tough one. Generally, they are much like IQ today in that multiply the score by 10 to get IQ. According to national census, Avg American is 90 (IQ game stat of 9), Avg Canadian 100 (IQ 10). Stephen Hawking is 145 (IQ 14-15) and Albert Einstein (at one point considered retarded by his teachers) is estimated at 160-180 (IQ 16-18) because he never took an IQ test.
IQ versus Intelligence Grade
over 140 excellent
120-139 very good
110-119 good
90-109 average, normal talent
80-89 low
70-79 very low
under 69 extremely low
WISDOM
Speaking of Albert Einstein, this is a quote I like.
"Wisdom is not a product of schooling but of the lifelong
attempt to acquire it."
Wisdom is one of the least tangible and most difficult stats to define in terms of comparison. Suffice to say, it is at the heart of common sense, willpower, and the like. If 9-10 is average, we can clearly say that people like those resistant to torture have a high one and those who live in tornado alley don't.
Sorry, but clear cut examples elude me.
CHARISMA
This one is also fairly intangible, but slightly easier to give examples of.
Captain James T Kirk, 18. Adolf Hitler 18+. King Leonidas (the real one, not the 300 version) 19+, Cyrano de Bergerac (in the play) 20. Machiavelli 21+
COMELINESS
Easiest way to say this is: in today's world I honestly believe there is no known 24. I dare say there are no widely known high 20's. There are a few I am willing to debate are in the 18-22 range. It is impossible in the modern world to exceed 24.
If history tells us true, Nefertiti was around 19 and Helen of Troy would have been a 24.
Just some stuff to consider.
More to come.
