I have played both Cyberpunk and Cybergen. In fact, we right now have a Cybergen game in the running, but most of our Punks are on hold.
I enjoy both a lot. I have seen on the Net there is a lot of division about them. Some feel Gen is sort of soft on the concept, or is like Punklite.
Personally, I enjoy both. It really depends on my mood. If I am feeling sort of aggressive and need to kill somethin, Punk is the one for me. On the other hand, if I am in a mood for goofing around no holds barred fun (even in combat) Gen fits the bill nicely.
Your thoughts?

It is the "next generation" of the cyberpunk world.
Simply put, the kids of the cyberpunks have grown up in a shitty world with no real parental models or supervision. A nano-weapon is released. If you are exposed, it either kills you, or gives you a single power sort of nano-cyberweapon. Best chance of survival is under 18 years of age.
The kids get powers, the govt wants to control, eradicate, and reverse engineer the tech.
Whole world thrown on its ear, and suddenly the disaffected youth have the power to do something about the world.
You play the kids (or aging cyberpunks) aiding what has come to be called the Cyber Revolution. Basically, it is people trying to take back their lives, their world, their everything.
It is cyberpunk, but with a built in hope for the future.

But... but... Cyber-Punk with hope for the future isn't cyberpunk....

Meh, I don't like emo games, I'd stick with cyber-gen. playing a character with no hope for the future would seem too lacking for me, let alone an entire campaign of them.
that and I'm a sucker for reform and redemption types, which sounds more like cyber-gen than cyber punk. If I jsst want to kill something I'll go play mortal combat.

Cyberpunk generally doesn't get emo, everyone's life sucks and everyone can only hope to survive. So nobody has the patience for emo.

Yeah, I would have to say Cyberpunk is FAR from "emo", though both it and "gen" can certainly be played that way..
Punk is more...I wanna say...jaded? Yeah. It is not a matter of hopeless, it is more a matter of having seen too much to care if there is hope or not.
Gen is all about bringing the hope back to that sort of world.
And it is not that it HAS hope....honestly, all the games of it I have played have been about being given that hope for a better world being possible, then struggling tooth and nail not to lose that hope when confronted by reality...
